The Sovereigns: From Canvas to Knit
Where the Royalty Collection reclaimed colonial portraits, the Sovereigns Collection translates documentary photographs of liberation thinkers into the same tapestry language. The figure becomes both source and sovereign. The first artifact carries Cabral.

DLX-S01-2026 is a knit panel rendered from a documentary photograph of Amílcar Cabral. The Sovereigns Collection extends the tapestry method of the Royalty Collection into the twentieth century: where Volume I retrieved figures from oil paint and engraving, the Sovereigns retrieve them from photojournalism, archive footage, and the visual record of liberation movements.
Walter Rodney is next. Then Sankara, Blyden, Évora. Full essay forthcoming.
